Clinical review before launch1What therapy is (and isn’t)
- It’s a private conversation with a trained professional, at your pace, about whatever is weighing on you. You don’t need a “big enough” reason.
- It isn’t advice-giving, preaching, or being told you’re crazy. A good therapist asks more than they tell.
- Most people feel a difference after a few sessions, not after one. It’s fine to try someone else if it doesn’t click.
2Signs it might be time to talk to someone
- Sleep, appetite or energy have changed for more than two weeks.
- Things you used to enjoy feel flat, or you’re pulling away from people.
- You’re leaning on alcohol or other substances to get through.
- Worry or sadness is getting in the way of work, school or family.
3When someone you love is struggling
- Ask directly and listen more than you speak. “Uko sawa kweli?” goes further than “just pray about it”.
- Don’t promise to keep a secret if their safety is at risk.
- Offer something concrete: sit with them while they book, or go with them to a clinic.
- Look after yourself too. Supporting someone is heavy.
